Tennis Betting Canadian Open-Rafael Nadal vs Juan Martin Del Potro

Rafael Nadal had the perfect match earlier in the Roger's Cup to get his knees worked in when he beat a relatively unknown (most tennis fans have not heard of him) Philipp Petzschner 6-3, 6-2. While the match was a breeze, which is good for Nadal backers, Petzschner is no Del Potro, who should be a greater challenge for sure.

The reason for that is that Del Potro is closer to Nadal’s league. He isn’t intimidated anymore by the Spaniard. He has recent momentum on his side – he won the Legg Mason Tennis betting Tournament in Washington, beating Roddick in the final. Overall, Del Potro is 38-10 on the season with two titles. He is growing from strength to strength and can only get better.

Tennis Betting Verdict: On paper, Nadal reads better than Del Potro in every aspect, including owning a 4-1 edge over the Argentine. Yet in spite of all this, we cannot say that he is the sure play.

Our recommendation is to go ahead and pick Del Potro. He appears to be the healthier of the two, he's fresh off of a title, and he beat Nadal in their last encounter which was also on hardcourt and just this year.

Tennis Betting: Nadal happy to be back on court

Rafael Nadal returned to singles action Wednesday at the Rogers Cup in Montreal but his comeback lasted just 36 minutes as his opponent, David Ferrer, was forced to withdraw with injury.

World No. 2 Nadal -- playing his first singles match since losing in the fourth round at the tennis betting French Open -- was leading 4-3 by a break in the first set of the second round clash when fellow Spaniard Ferrer was forced to quit with a knee injury.

Nadal, who had already played two doubles matches this week, said he was happy to be back on the court after spending two months on the sidelines with tendonitis in both knees.

"And the next round in tennis betting , I have another chance tomorrow to continuing to improve. Every match, every game is important to feel better for me."

Nadal faces Philipp Petzschner on Thursday after the German eliminated Spanish 15th seed Tommy Robredo 7-6, 7-6.

Seventh seed Jo-Wilfried Tsonga also advanced, beating Germany's Rainer Schuettler 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 to set up an all-French quarter-final against Gilles Simon.

Tennis Betting-Rogers Cup Picks-Second Round Matches.

Tennis-betting docket with top-notch competitors like Gilles Simon, Stanislas Wawrinka and Philipp Kohlschreiber against quality challengers. Here is a quick rundown of some of the delicious early round morsels tennis betting bettors might want to sink their teeth in – while it is still on the table that is....

Tennis Betting Line:

Gilles Simon -4 -130 -500 21 O -130 U -110
Alejandro Falla +4 -110 +300 21 O -130 U -110

Tennis Free Picks: Simon in straight sets -500 | Under 21 -110

Tennis Betting Line:

Stanislas Wawrinka -4½ -105 -600 21 O -110 U -130
Andrey Golubev +4½ -135 +350 21 O -110 U -130

Sportsbook Online SPORTSBETTING.com currently has the betting odds .

Tennis Betting Verdict: Stanislas Wawrinka eked out 2008 Rogers Cup finalist Nicolas Kiefer in his opening match. I expected Wawrinka to have a tougher time than he did – he needed two sets to accomplish the feat. Still, I can’t say that I was hugely impressed by his game. Maybe he was just playing smart and did just enough to go through. Kiefer is after all a dangerous player. Might I be reading a little too much into it all? The fact though is that Wawrinka dropped out of the top 20 this season on the heels of a mixed season. He has enjoyed some success on clay; not so much on hard.

He takes on lucky loser Andrey Golubev of Kazakhstan in the second round. Golubev took out Radek Stepanek in the first round, thereby, causing a mini-upset. Kudos to Golubev. Does that mean he can back-u- his win with a slightly bigger one? To take out Wawrinak though would be a tougher feat to accomplish.

Tennis Betting - Federer open against Canadians

World No.1 Roger Federer will open his bid against Canadian wild card Frederic Niemeyer; meanwhile, Chilean Fernando Gonzalez will take on a Canadian qualifier in Milos Raonic.

Canadian tennis betting fans will be out in full force to get behind their local boys and cheer them on, but it is not likely that any seriously entertains the possibility either Canadian will advance. The most they can hope for is a respectable (yes, looking at you Frank Dancevic) showing. For tennis betting bettors, the advantage is that here are two matches that are an almost lock, the favourites certain to advance. Or are they? At the writing of this short betting piece, another Canadian wild card is making some noise on Centre Court. No.225 Peter Polansky is leading Djokovic in the second set, threatening to take the second set and force a third. To early to say which way the dice will fall...

Tennis Betting Gambling Line:

Fernando Gonzalez -6 -105 -3000 18½ O -120 U -120

Milos Raonic +6 -135 +1000 18½ O -120 U -120

Match Time: Not Before 07:00 P.M. Eastern Time Tuesday August 11 2009

Tennis Betting Verdict: Canadian qualifier Milos Raonic will take on the best fore-hand (or one of the best) in the business when he meets world No.10 Fernando Gonzalez. Gonzalez, 29, is having a hot season. In fact, the older he gets the better he gets – (men seem to be really peaking these days in the latter stages of their careers). Overall, he is 27-8 on the season with one title.

Gonzalez enters this match with a significant ranking edge over his opponent – No. 679 Milos Raonic. Very little is known about the 18-yera-old. It is safe to assume though that Gonzalez will give Raonic a lesson in tennis. Anything other than that would be a huge surprise.

Rogers Cup Tennis Betting Preview

It was a very profitable week at the Washington 500 as Juan Martin Del Potro eventually overcame a dogged opponent in Andy Roddick and the searing heat to retain his trophy at the nice price of 5.5.

There's no time to rest on laurels though as the ATP action continues straight away in Canada with the Rogers Cup Tennis Betting - an ATP 1000 event these days.

As Canada's only event of note on the tour the betting cup alternates between Toronto and Montreal and this year it's back in Montreal where Novak Djokovic was the winner last time out in 2007.

The courts here are the same surface as the US Open Tennis betting , so conditions are going to be fast and the tennis balls of choice this year are the Penn Masters series.

Number one seed and tournament favourite is new dad Roger Federer at around 3.0 and as it appears is customary these days Fed has been handed what seems a rather comfortable draw.

The Swiss maestro, despite having two Rogers Cups to his name and an 8-2 record in Montreal, has only ever won the title in Toronto so he will be keen to correct that here this week.

Tennis Betting-Nadal Begins His Comeback in a Different Tennis World

Rafael Nadal leaned forward and locked his gaze on the table that was inches from his face. He spoke in a monotone to the reporters who surrounded him, saying little and moving less. Had he shifted even a few inches one way or another, he would have collided with the microphones that swarmed his face like bees.

Nadal pegged his chances of winning this tournament at “almost impossible” and “very difficult,” but the Rogers Cup will serve a greater purpose, allowing him to gauge his recovery — and his chances of winning the United States Open, which begins Aug. 31.

In Nadal’s absence, his chief rival, Roger Federer, reclaimed the No. 1 ranking and rewrote the record books. Both of those things seemed unlikely after the 2008 French Open, when Nadal dominated Federer in straight sets, even feeding him a 6-0 bagel in the third.

The Wimbledon victory returned Federer to No. 1 and gave him the most Grand Slam titles (15) in tennis betting history.

Tennis Betting-Legg Mason Tennis Classic Last 16

The Legg Mason Tennis Classic that boasts the best field of the US Open Series thus far, and finally has the tennis betting stage all to itself (no more European clay-court events sharing the spotlight), enters the Round of 16 today. An impressive line-up of players is set to kick off their bids for a spot in the quarterfinals.

First up to take to centre court today is the battle between two veterans – Tommy Haas and Juan Carlos Ferrero. Haas, 31, is seeded tenth in the tournament and is the favourite in his quarter (the third quarter) to advance. But Ferrero, 29, is a former world No.1 player and he has hit a fine stride lately. Elsewhere, American Wayne Odesnik takes on Chilean firebrand Fernando Gonzalez.

Tennis Betting-Hewitt Carries Australia's Hopes

After winning particularly challenging games at the Legg Mason online Betting Classic on Wednesday evening, Lleyton Hewitt pumped his fist with vigor and released an adrenaline-driven shriek toward a corner of the grandstand filled with his supporters. Those fans responded with an Australian chant for one of the finest Australians in the history of tennis:

"Aussie, Aussie, Aussie! Oi! Oi! Oi!"

The homage came during a 6-3, 2-6, 6-2 second-round win over Israel's Dudi Sela, but it is only heard at the Legg Mason when Hewitt is playing. He is the lone Australian in this year's field. Hewitt advanced to play Juan Martín del Potro, whom he upset in the second round at Wimbledon earlier this summer. Hewitt was the only Australian in the 128-man field in that tournament, too.

Tennis Betting-Simple Win For Sharapova

Maria Sharapova breezed through to the second round of the WTA LA Women's Tennis Championships in Los Angeles with a straight-sets victory over Jarmila Groth.

The 22-year-old Russian triumphed 6-0 6-4 against her Slovakian opponent to secure a second-round date with third seed Victoria Azarenka of Belarus.

The highest-seeded casualty was Frenchwoman Virginie Razzano, with Russia's Anna Chakvetadze defeating the 11th seed 7-6 (7/5) 6-3.

Fifteenth seed Kaia Kanepi of Estonia and Francesca Schiavone, the 16th seed from Italy, also suffered first-round exits.

Lucie Safarova of the Czech Republic overcame Kanepi 6-3 7-6 (7/4) while American qualifier Jill Craybas was a 7-6 (9/7) 6-2 winner against Schiavone.

There were no such worries for 10th-seeded Italian Flavia Pennetta, although she was made to work hard for a 6-2 5-7 6-0 victory over American lucky loser Varvara Lepchenko.

Peng Shuai claimed her place in round two courtesy of a hard-fought 6-3 6-7 (4/7) 6-3 triumph over Dutch qualifier Michaella Krajicek.

Tennis Betting-Somdev advances in Legg Mason tennis tourney

India's Somdev Devvarman is through to the second round in the Legg Mason Tennis Classic, beating fellow qualifier Yuichi Sugita 6-0, 7-6 (6).

Qualifying for the second successive ATP Tour event, Somdev breezed through the first set against the 255th ranked Japanese Tour debutant, but encountered a tenacious Sugita in the second.

Sugita forced a tie-break which the Indian clinched 8-6.

Playing in a tough field, Somdev next takes on sixth-seeded Croatian Marin Cilic who got a first-round bye.

Unseeded Australian Lleyton Hewitt, playing his first match since Wimbledon, advanced to the second round with a 7-5, 6-2 win over American wild card Donald Young in a match that featured nine breaks of serve.

Hewitt said that he was happy to make a winning start to his US Open Series campaign at the ATP World Tour 500 hard-court tennis tournament. Hewitt, who is No. 42 in the South African Airways 2009 ATP Rankings, has a chance to press his claim for a Top 20 spot this summer after missing the entire US hard court swing last year following a hip surgery.

Russian Mikhail Youzhny won on his Washington debut as he defeated American Robert Kendrick 7-5, 3-6, 6-1, while Yen-hsun Lu of Chinese Taipei battled past American wild card Michael Russell 4-6, 6-1, 7-5 to set up a second-round clash with defending champion and No. 2 seed Juan Martin del Potro.

In another first-round match, German Phillip Petzschner rallied past Russia's Teimuraz Gabashvilli 4-6, 6-3, 6-4.

Tennis Betting-Querrey follows Ball into LA tennis showdown

Qualifier Carsten Ball stretched his dream run at the Los Angeles Open all the way to Sunday's final, where he faces former junior rival Sam Querrey in a battle of big servers.

The Los Angeles-born Australian Ball will see his 205th ranking rise to 120th should he buck the odds and claim an ATP title ran past Argentine Leonardo Mayer 7-5, 7-6 (7/3) in their semi-final here in Tennis Betting.

Sixth seed Querrey reached his third final as many events with an upset of two-time winner and top seed Tommy Haas 6-3, 7-5, with the Californian saving three break points in the final game to ice the win.

"I've been playing a lot of matches recently," said Querrey, who came up short in post-Wimbledon trophy bids at Newport and Indianapolis last month. "But the more matches you win, the better the confidence.

"I've been doing a lot of running on the track, 200 (metres), 400 (metres), that is starting to pay off. It may also help that I've been feeling pretty hyper on court."

Ball, who lives in nearby Newport Beach and has happily commuted up to four hours per day ever since qualifying rounds more than a week ago, had never played an ATP-level match prior to this week.
