Maria Sharapova Exits Wimbledon 2009-Wimbledon 2009 Tennis Odds

Former champion Maria Sharapova crashed out of Wimbledon 2009 in the second round after being beaten in three sets by world No45 Gisela Dulko.

The Argentinian won the first set with ease before Sharapova looked to have steadied herself in winning the second, only for Dulko to battle back in the deciding set to complete a major upset.

The 24th-seeded Sharapova struggled with her forehand Wednesday and repeatedly lost points when forced to run forward for drop shots.

Dulko closed out the victory when Sharapova sailed a forehand long.

Maria Sharapova lost a second-round Wimbledon match to Gisela Dulko.

Sharapova, who is coming off shoulder surgery, lost 6-2, 3-6, 6-4.

Federer’s quest for Grand Slam greatness continues

Over the years, the celebrated British summer carnival _ the All England tennis championships at Wimbledon _ a singular spectacle that manages to rise above the noisy ephemerality of everyday sport, has witnessed remarkable changes while continuously offering us the illusion of changelessness.

But no single change in its long march from Victorian era garden party beginnings to the dawn of the new millennium and beyond might have altered the very character of one of the oldest and greatest sports events in the world as much as the roof over the Centre Court, inaugurated a few weeks ahead of the 123rd championships that begins here on Monday. A stage hardly reputed for mutability has undergone a remarkable transformation.

Wimbledon Tennis Betting Guide – Tennis Betting - Wimbledon Betting

The 2009 Wimbledon Tournament is quickly approaching, with all eyes on Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal. The sports betting community, those who wager on tennis (a growing segment), are just getting over a very exciting French Open.

Federer won the French, playing on clay, a surface that he hasn’t been able to dominate. Sports bettors were heavy on both Nadal and Federer in the French at online sportsbook, and obviously those who backed Federer were very happy with the result.

Nadal, who loves the clay courts, suffered an injury and wasn’t able to deliver on the clash everyone wanted to see between the top two players in the world. His absence also helped clear a path to the title for Federer.

SPORTSBETTING.com reported that more betting volume came in on Nadal then did on Federer, but the same isn’t the case at Wimbledon. Federer isn’t known as the “King of Wimbledon” for nothing. And the sports betting world is banking on him grabbing his 6th Wimbledon crown. Roger is only one Grand Slam win away from passing Pete Sampras to grab the record for the most men's Grand Slams in history and what better way to accomplish that then on the beautiful green grass at Wimbledon.

Online sportsbooks, like SPORTSBETTING.com, are reporting steady betting volume on Federer, who currently has odds on him of 2-3, making him a big favorite to win the crown.

Nadal isn’t the second biggest favorite in this tournament. That distinction belongs to Brit Andy Murray. Just imagine the pressure on this youngster, as he plays in front of the “local” crowd. He is hoping to improve on last year’s quarter-final showing. Murray has been getting solid interest from sports bettors at the online sportsbooks, and his current odds are 3-1.

Then comes Nadal at 7-2 Wimbledon odds. Nadal bettors still have fresh in their memory the brilliant win in 2008, in a victory over Federer that some experts call the greatest match of all time.

Can he pull off another big win? We’ll see when everything gets going.

French Open Intruder Creates Scary Moments for Federer

The on-court intrusion Sunday in the French Open men’s final might have been scary for Roger Federer, but it was not without precedent during a Grand Slam tournament.
With Robin Soderling about to serve at 1-2, 15-0 in the second set, an intruder ran down a staircase in the lower section of the stands at Philippe Chatrier court, jumped over the barrier and onto Roger Federer’s half of the court.

There was a gap of more than 10 seconds between the moment the man, a serial publicity seeker, leapt onto the clay and the moment a security guard tackled him. That was enough time for him to approach Federer, brandish a banner at him and attempt to force a hat onto the startled Federer’s head.

St. Francis Prep girls tennis wins 10th Mayor's Cup

A decade of dominance is now complete for John Brennan and his St. Francis Prep girls tennis team.

The Lady Terriers' 3-2 victory over Cardozo at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center on Sunday gave the celebrated program its 10th consecutive Mayor's Cup team crown, pushing its winning streak to an unprecedented 161 matches.

Prep stayed on top without former standout Shinann Featherston, who won an unprecedented four consecutive Mayor's Cup singles crowns before leaving last fall to begin college at the University of North Carolina.

The victory was especially sweet for Brennan, who returned to the Fresh Meadows high school after surgery in January to fight oral cancer that was initially treated 28 years ago.
